Santa Barbara Rape Crisis CenterDonate
Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center empowers people through healing and social change to eliminate all forms of sexual violence. We are committed to transforming lives by providing services and education to meet the needs of our diverse community.
To fulfill this mission, SBRCC provides: 1) crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy and support in order to heal and empower sexual assault survivors, their family members and friends; and 2) community education and prevention programs to increase the awareness, empathy and understanding necessary to effect the attitudinal and behavioral changes which are essential to the elimination of sexual assault.
The Big Idea:
Guys4Change is an educational group dedicated to empowering high school young men to learn about rape prevention and to discover the role they can play in eliminating sexual assault in our community. This program inspires young men to move from being passive bystanders to activists.
Gera is a dedicated young man motivated to improve himself and his community. “After I heard about Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) I knew I wanted to get involved”. Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center focused the SAAM campaign on issues of teen dating and sexual violence. It was not easy for Gera to participate on the committee as many of the issues, such as sexual assault and relationship violence, had impacted members of his immediate family. However, as he took on this leadership role, his confidence increased and he overcame these obstacles. He helped plan the details of the culminating event “Expect Respect,” a day dedicated to educating community members about sexual assault through a theater performance. He volunteered to recruit community actors to participate in the play. “I want to be a film-maker and director, and want people see how this topic affects them.”
