Santa Barbara County Network of Promotores

Organization Mission

The mission of Children and Family Resource Services is to provide high-quality, family-focused, strength-based, culturally appropriate educational and health services to build resilient communities throughout Santa Barbara County. The S.B. County Network of Promotores program aims to empower families and individuals with respect, dignity, and compassion by enhancing the quality of all aspects of their lives through education and promoting healthy behaviors.

Social Change Project:

The push to recognize and support healthy social-emotional growth in early childhood settings has been expanding with ever-growing evidence on the critical role of social-emotional health in school success and as a predictor for adult life. This project will support training for the lead promotores through the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning’s evidence-based series Positive Solutions for Families, which helps professionals working with parents to promote positive, effective parenting behaviors for advancing children’s social and emotional development. This project will also involve purchasing resources in Spanish for promotores and parents.

My name is Laura Carrasco, I'm married to Antonio Garcia. We have three beautiful children, Anthony, 14, Katie, 11, and Angel, 4 years old. As parents, my husband and I have always been concerned about the good development and education of our children. My involvement with SBC Network of Promotores has been the key to opening up many supports for our children. Through them I was connected with First 5, CSEFEL, CALM and so many more resources for my family. It has helped me develop the skills to be the best parent I can be – and also to be a leader, to help rise up other parents. Together we bring a new generation of children that build up our community. I just want to say that I am very grateful and have been very fortunate to find this help in the community.
