Alternatives to Violence Project/Santa Barbara

Organization Mission

Alternatives to Violence Project empowers people to lead nonviolent lives through affirmation, respect for all, community building, cooperation, and trust. Founded in and developed from the real-life experiences of prisoners and others, and building on a spiritual base, AVP encourages every person’s innate power to positively transform themselves and the world. Santa Barbara AVP offers experiential workshops in personal growth and creative conflict management for adults and youth in and around the County of Santa Barbara and, on occasion, elsewhere in California.

Social Change Project:
Una Familia Connectada/ Families Connecting Well

At-risk youth are becoming facilitators and leaders in Alternatives to Violence Project workshops, being aware of their previous behavior and working to change themselves. The next logical step is to involve parents in their teens’ shift toward a nonviolent approach to life. Parents of these workshop grads want to be involved! They are ready to recruit others for an introductory workshop. We ask for your support to make a parents’ mini-workshop (which we will eventually develop into 18 hours) financially feasible by covering needs such as childcare, reimbursement for transportation and lost wages, and simultaneous interpretation.

After my teenager attended a workshop, I noticed he is able to make better choices (has common sense now).
Despues que mi hijo attendio un taller/entrenamiento, note que empezo hacer mejores decisiones.
