The mission of Pacific Pride Foundation (PPF) is to advance advocacy and education efforts to meet the ongoing and emerging needs of a diverse population in order to create a thriving and visible LGBTQ+ community and to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS. We serve Santa Barbara County and the Central Coast with a dynamic range of health, education, outreach, advocacy, and social services that support the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals of every race, gender, age, sexuality, religion, and socioeconomic status. Founded in 1976, PPF has become the foremost resource between Los Angeles and San Francisco for LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV/AIDS.
LGBTQ+ youth in Santa Barbara County often feel isolated in their daily lives while facing bullying and harassment. Self-harm and suicidal thoughts and attempts are not uncommon. Pacific Pride Foundation reaches out to LGBTQ+ youth to say: YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Our social change idea is to empower community youth with peer support, leadership development, and community involvement. Our Youth Connect Conference and PROUD prom offer safe environments and new tools for building self-esteem. The goal is to encourage and support youth so they can emerge from the shadows of isolation with a strong sense of self-worth and feel free to be who they want to be, without shame.
“Pacific Pride Foundation’s youth programs brought myself and my peers a place of safety and comfort. It’s a place to bring our questions, our lives, and our stories to the table. Every teenager deserves to have this opportunity we are given every summer… It’s a place to learn about LGBTQ+ histories. It’s a place to make LGBTQ+ history.”
