We are the problem-solvers, the hand-raisers, and the game-changers. We go after our community’s toughest challenges. We develop solutions. And we work with people from all walks of life to turn those solutions into action. It’s not easy, but we don’t ever give up. We focus on more than just a single issue or community. We fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person, in every community. We are United Way.
The Big Idea:
Home For Good Santa Barbara County
Home For Good Santa Barbara County is a community-driven action plan with a vision of ending homelessness in Santa Barbara County. We will engage the community in eliminating the negative impacts of homelessness on our homeless neighbors, on our businesses, and on our communities.
The Santa Barbara region has been very good about creating long-term plans to address critical issues. Unfortunately, our follow-through has been lacking more often than not.
Our region has been grappling with issues of housing and homelessness for decades. We’ve asked a lot of questions. We’ve made a lot of plans. But the political will and the financial commitment have not been sufficient to do what we know we must.
Today I believe we’re closer than we’ve ever been. The Home for Good effort is, arguably, what we’ve been working toward all this time. Now it’s up to us to show we can build the political will, establish the critical trust among all who serve our homeless neighbors, and make the financial commitment necessary to solve homelessness in our region.
