Showers of BlessingDonate
Showers of Blessing engages the compassion and volunteer spirit of both housed and houseless residents of South Santa Barbara County in the operation of a mobile shower trailer in order to promote health and wellness, build avenues to employment, and restore dignity and self-worth to our most vulnerable neighbors.
Social Change Project:
Cleanliness Returns Dignity to Houseless
Showers of Blessing provides hot showers and love to people experiencing homelessness. We bring our shower trailer to seven established sites in the greater Santa Barbara area every week. With each shower we offer a freshly laundered towel and washcloth, a pair of new cotton socks, a pair of new underwear, hygiene items and limited emergency clothing. At each site we also provide companionship, conversation and contact with other homeless service providers. Our services are entirely free.
One of Showers of Blessing’s greatest testimonials was published in an anonymous obituary written in the Santa Barbara Independent on March 8, 2018. In part, the obituary says:
Jeffery Samuel Smith, 54, of Randleman, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his homeless camp in Goleta on a Thursday afternoon. You could say Samuel was just another homeless dude, but I found him to be one of the most talented and interesting people I have ever met. Thursday was an important day in Samuel’s life, it’s the day he could get a hot shower and shave, maybe some donated shoes. This is the “Showers of Blessing,” a faith based group that provides a portable shower and new clothes that have been donated by local outlets. This was an opportunity for Samuel and the other homeless to mingle and receive help from people who truly cared..
