IMPORTA is committed to providing affordable, high quality legal immigration services to our local immigrant communities without charge. Our work contributes to enhanced trust, stronger immigrant families, and increased participation by immigrants in our county’s economic, civic and cultural life.
DACA—“Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals”—is a program created by President Obama in 2012 after a collapse of Congressional efforts to grant a path to citizenship for young children who were brought to the United States by their parents. DACA provides only temporary protection, with the necessity of renewal every two years, and paying a $495 fee for each renewal. Many of the young people who have received DACA work very hard, but still struggle to pay school tuition and contribute to family expenses. IMPORTA has provided legal representation to almost 1,000 DACA recipients over the past several years—more than any other legal provider in the County and all without any charge to the DACA recipients. However, we have no way to help DACA applicants who are facing financial hardship cover the $495 government fee. Thus we decided to ask our community to contribute to help especially needy DACA recipients stay in the program. Every dollar contributed will go directly towards paying the $495 government fee of a deserving DACA recipient. Contribute what you can—every dollar helps!
I was referred to IMPORTA Santa Barbara by a friend on social media who informed me that they were offering to subsidize the DACA renewal fee. From the first time I called their office to arrange an appointment they were nothing but professional and efficient. Mayetzi B. helped me during my visit; she made sure to verify the accuracy of the information in my application. I was never charged for their services and I was reassured that they would cover the total cost of my renewal application as well as the shipping and handling of the documents. I left their office feeling pleased about their competence and productivity regarding my case. i would gladly recommend their services to any of my friends who need any immigration legal advice.
