Carpinteria Valley Arts Council

Organization Mission

The mission of the Carpinteria Arts Center is to foster diverse community involvement, to nurture the creative process and its appreciation, to provide educational opportunities, to establish a center for the arts, and to enhance and enrich the quality of life in the Carpinteria Valley.

The Big Idea:
Building a Home for the Arts

CAC is purchasing and renovating a building and outdoor space in the middle of downtown Carpinteria to more than double the size of our facilities and expand our program offerings to the whole community. We offer visual arts exhibitions and education, music, poetry, film, theater, children’s art experiences, murals and public art, and other events and activities for the community.

Eduardo is an 8th grade student who came to our after school art program last year. He loves art and there were no art classes at Carpinteria Middle School, where he is enrolled. He was disappointed to learn that he would be too old to participate in our 7-week summer arts camp, so when we created a new ‘counselor-in-training’ program for camp, he signed up for the full seven weeks of art, music, and drama, assisting the instructors with the smaller children, helping set up and clean up, and making art along the way. He was here every day. He came to us last fall as a shy, soft-spoken boy, and by the end of summer he was so visibly confident and at home here. Now he even comes to volunteer for adult events and is enrolled in the fall after school course again. He has found a home at the Arts Center, and we are looking forward to having many more like Eduardo join our family.
