Social Change Project:
The Condors Project – A  Youth Leadership and Environmental Stewardship Program

Two leading nonprofit organizations in Santa Barbara have come together to develop a new leadership and environmental stewardship program called, The Condors Project. The program connects 25-30 teens from the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Barbara to the Los Padres National Forest. Through a series of educational hikes and camping trips, teens visit the most iconic places in our local forest, learn outdoor leadership skills, and gain a more significant understanding of what it means to be an active steward of the environment in order to preserve it for generations ahead.

Project Mission: To build a stronger environmental movement by introducing youth with the most need to the life-changing effects of nature, while providing them with new tools to be leaders in their communities, and future advocates of the Los Padres National Forest.

Project Vision: That all children in Santa Barbara regardless of race, gender, age, or socioeconomic background have the opportunity to build a meaningful connection with the Los Padres National Forest and can develop an appreciation for wild places at a young age.

By participating in the programs at the Boys & Girls Club, I learned leadership skills and the power and enjoyment that come from truly serving the community. I work here to pass on that spirit of giving back.”
