To empower people to lead nonviolent lives through affirmation, respect for all, community building, cooperation, and trust. Using real-life experiences of prisoners and others, and building on a spiritual base, AVP encourages every person’s innate power to positively transform themselves and the world. AVP offers experiential workshops in personal growth and creative conflict management for adults and youth in and around the county of Santa Barbara.
What could truant high schoolers do to increase their interest in school? It’s as simple as taking a 20-hour highly interactive workshop, off-campus. (50% is the reduction shown in early data of a three-year project with the Santa Barbara Unified School District.) Teens having trouble in school are referred by Assistant Principals to attend an Alternatives to Violence Project workshop and are having fun learning more productive ways to communicate, listen, deal with conflict and to be a part of safe and healthy community.
How does one prepare for the big world out there without attending school? Pretty hard …. So staying in school and learning fresh people skills in this thought-provoking fun workshop looks to be an effective way. Give this program a chance by donating now.
I was in a bad place in my life. I was getting involved in gangs, drugs and the usual violence that comes with it. AVP helped me see life in a better way and to try and find a more honest path. I realized that I could make it far on my own. I am heading out of state with my beautiful girlfriend and I am on my way to work on Harley Davidsons. That’s an honest living.
